1 MISSION STATEMENT
Travel Team is an honor and a privilege. As an ALL-STAR team the expectation is greater, competition is tougher, and time commitment is longer. We are here because we wish to represent ourselves, our teams, Dockyard, and the sport of roller derby in the finest light possible. We wish to push our league to a WFTDA competitive level, similar to established national leagues, by setting an example. We want to represent Dockyard using the finest league representatives from each team taking into consideration skill, attitude, dedication, and participation. We are here because we want to work and work hard.
Travel Team will play WFTDA sanctioned games in an effort to earn a ranked position in the Western conference. It is our goal to be invited to the regional tournament by 2013.
2 ELIGIBILITY
• Must skate with DyDD for 6 months or 2 team bouts, whatever comes first. If 2 bouts occur in less than 60 days, approval to tryout required by both league team & WAVE captains.
• Must be a rostered skater for one of the four league teams
• Skaters express desire to be on TRAVEL TEAM by “signing up” for tryouts on the forum
• League Captains verify that the skaters trying out for TRAVEL TEAM are in good standings: dues paid, attendance requirements met, committee requirements met.
• Skaters will complete a short questionnaire about availability, commitment, goals.
• Skater must be present on official tryout night – EVERYONE including the current top 20 and the Tide Pool must try out in order to secure a spot.
3 TRYOUTS
Frequency:
Tryouts are every 6 months or 2 times per season minimum. Dates will be chosen by ALL Dydd Captains.
Tryouts will be led by current coaches and consist of:
o Warm up – current coaches will lead a variety of skills, agility, and endurance drills
o Scrimmage – approx 45 minutes
Selection Method:
o All league members will be invited and encouraged to attend tryouts.
o Each team receives 2 votes for top 30: 1 from the team captains and 1 from the team coaches (they must decide together). Between the 4 home teams and TT team this results in 10 votes.
o In the event that an individual is a coach or captain for multiple teams, the individual shall make every attempt to ensure that he or she is not exerting undue influence on the decision making process by restricting his or her involvement in the voting process to one of the teams he or she represents and leaving the voting for the other team to the remaining captain or coach.
o The top 30 will then use the same method to select the top 20, immediately following try outs.
o The top 20 will be submitted to WFTDA
o The remaining 10, to be called “the tide pool” (TIDE POOL) are encouraged to practice and play with the travel team and will be eligible for a top 20 spot during the Quarterly Review Process.
o Participation in the TIDE POOL is voluntary, not mandatory.
o If a skater interested in TRAVEL TEAM cannot make the tryout date they can be considered as a member of the Tide Pool for the first quarter ONLY IF all 10 TIDE POOL spots are not taken.
In the event there is more than one interested skater who cannot make the date, they will be put on a list in the order they signed up. Open TIDE POOL slots will be appointed accordingly; first come first serve basis.
o The TIDE POOL can only be “restocked” via the tryout process.
o Coaches who meet the requirements in section 7 will be voted on by the top 20 immediately following tryouts.
o TRAVEL TEAM Coaches/Captains will select each 16 person game day roster.
